This is actually a lot easier than it sounds. The great thing about this is that in addition to making money, you will have a great thing to talk about in your job interviews as if you succeed doing this it will show entrepreneur spirit.

Basically there are a lot of manufacturers who work with materials such as metal and wood, and they will always have scrap materials that they need to dispose of. For these companies it is not profitable to find someone that they can sell these materials at a discount so they basically just give it away to anyone who wants it. The good news is that for you or me, this is profitable. Since you are getting these materials for free then you can sell them for very cheap to whoever wants it.

When I first saw this, I was thinking that a college student like me has no way of storing wood chips and pieces of metal, but then I came up with a way.

Find the materials you want to sell, then find a buyer, and then just tell the supplier to send it to the buyer. Simple.

Chances are since they are giving away the materials for free that the manufacturer will not want to be in charge of shipping it to you. In this case you will need to find a local manufacturer and have a car. It is a little less convenient but still a profitable operation.

Now the important thing is to find a site that provides a list of updated materials for free within your local area.

I live in England and I have found eastex.org.uk to be the most convenient site. It has a simple interface and is fairly local for me.

This method of making money is a little less 'virtual' than what I would like the posts on this site to be, but I think it has some potential.

Sell your photos online

This is a really easy way to make money for a specific type of person. The person I am talking about is the camera person. We all know one at least one person who is obsessed with photography. Personally I do not understand the 'science' of photography, but I do realize that there are a lot of student or recreational photographers who could benefit by making a buck. Now if you are looking into a career of freelance photography then it might be better to try and get your photos published directly, but if that is not your focus then you can earn some money with istock photo.

Istock Photo is basically a market place where anyone can sell their photos, videos or audio clips, and then anyone who needs these products for websites or catalogues can purchase them. Naturally ISP gets a commission fee, although I am not sure how much.

Photo prices range from 1 to 17 GBP while videos are a little more expensive and range from 12-69 GBP. The price really depends on the resolution/size of the product.

The downside of this is that there is a huge supply. If you make selling this easy then a lot of people are going to sell. The only way to make money is to really stand out, which is very hard to do. However, if you sell a couple to the same person/organization, then you could potentially create a relationship where you will supply them with photos on a constant basis.

Overall, if you have tons of photos and don't mind selling them online for a little money then you should definitely try this, as there are really no costs associated with it and it doesn't take up a lot of time. Check out istockphoto.com to learn more.

How it works is you get sent emails around 8 a day, and each pays you $0.02. However, they do guarantee that you will receive $10 just for signing up, and you never have to pay for anything. It's incredible.

You may be saying that $0.02 is not worth receiving emails, and you have a point, for 8 emails per day you would only earn 16 cents. This translates to $58 a year which is actually not bad. Sell Amazon Products on your Site for Free

This I believe is the next step in affiliate marketing. You do not just advertise a single site or store, but with Amazons program you can advertise individual products on your site. This is brilliant as it basically means that you can create an online store without any shipping, billing or administrative nuisances. For example I operate a sports site called The Sports Retort, and I am currently implementing various exclusives such as book and movie of the week (related to sports of course). This is a good way to make money for a start up site, but it is an amazing way to make money if you have a good base of subscribers. If you do then do not wait and sign up at amazon.com.

The only bad news is that they do not provide commission fees anywhere near to the 75% that clickbank does. For most products you earn a measly 10-15%. However, think about it this way:

Let's say you advertise two products.

A) a clickbank product for losing weight that costs $50 and of that you will receive $25 in commission fees.

B) a bestseller book connected to the theme of your site that is sold by amazon and will earn you $5 commission.

I would choose product B, as I know that someone who visits my site and clicks on the link for the product is much more likely to purchase from amazon than some unknown site. People are not stupid and a site is deemed to be a scam until proven innocent.

Trying to earn money through your blog or website can be difficult and unpredictable. A majority of the monetizing strategies available such as ads and affiliate programs are functions of how many people click or buy the product. However, as I was researching new ways to make money I could write about I came across one of the best ways to monetize your website or blog, all that is required is traffic.

Payperpost.com is a program where you sign up, and then write reviews of products for a fixed fee per review. You sign up your website or blog and then they review your site in order to make sure it qualifies. The only drawback is that they do not accept sites with very low traffic. This makes sense as they do not want to pay someone to write and then have no one read it. You get to specify what your fee per review is, and the default setting is $5 which is not bad. I suggest you do not go higher when you are starting out. Once you show that you can write well then you can raise your fee.

The great thing is that as most monetization strategies require traffic and conversion (selling), this method only requires traffic, as you get paid upfront. If you just started your site or blog then this may not be a realistic method, and you might have to wait a while before you have enough traffic to get accepted into their program. I have recently come across this and its another service I am thinking about signing up for. Anyone who has done any online content writing knows that it is hugely beneficent to submit the content to sites such as ezinearticles.com. This allows an individual to get the word out about their website or about their product. This is still a great method but as all online strategies, it becomes obsolete pretty quickly. A new site, articlemarketer.com keeps a database of article submission sites. The way it works is you submit your article to articlemarketer.com, and then the site submits your article to hundreds of different article sites. It allows much better exposure than manual submission.

The one problem is that it is a monthly fee, so if you are planning to invest in this make sure you will use it. If you are only going to submit one or two articles a month then you should rethink, but if you are more serious than this is definitely the right program for you.

I have been doing some research about BANS (build a niche site) for about a week as I have never heard of this before and I have to admit it does show some promise.

What is BANS?

The idea behind it is that you become an affiliate of Ebay, except that this program goes a step beyond regular affiliate programs. As most affiliate programs give you a link for you to advertise, BANS helps you create an entire online store, featuring ebay products. Think about this, no shipping concerns, you just get paid for the items you sell. Once you sign up and select a niche or category, it allows you to choose products to feature in your online store.

What about Search Engines and Indexing?

This is the true beauty of the BANS program. If you create your own site it takes a long time and effort before you have a decent page rank. However, Ebay has a page rank of 8/10, which is unheard of (the only site which i have seen to have a higher page rank is google itself), and since ebay is a backlink to your site through the affiliate connection, you are guaranteed to be listed high in the search engines.

Is it worth it?

Paid to Write Online: Articles, Forum Posts and Blog Comments

There are tons of webmasters out there who want one thing: traffic. Traffic is the holy grail in terms of websites. Now one of the best ways to get traffic is to get backlinks (I will discuss this in more detail in my upcoming posts "Monetizing your website"). Basically back links are links to your website from other websites. The higher the page rank of the site on which your link appears the better it will be for your site in terms of Google ranking. Since webmasters do not have time to create all these backlinks they often hire people to write these for them. They come in three main formats: articles, forum posts and blog comments.

Payment wise this may not seem like the most lucrative option as the going rates are about $1 per 100 words for articles, 0.10 cents for forum post and blog comment. However, you have to look at it this way, lets say you can write 500 words in an hour, so that is $5 an hour which is not bad. Considering you can work whenever you want and however long you want. Personally I have never attempted the forum posts or blog commenting as this is way to monotonous and I couldn't stand getting paid only a couple cents for something, but its really up to the individual.

The trick with this strategy is finding the work. You may be asking yourself right now 'where the hell would I go looking for these types of jobs?' The 'job market' for these types of 'assignments' is usually a forum where you can post your going rate and webmasters can find you or you will see posts by webmasters and you can just reply to those. Be aware that this is higly competitive, within seconds of a new job coming up there is already a person asking for it. Most ask for a sample of work so make sure you have some sort of article (around 300 words to send them). Also remember to LIE LIE LIE. Say you have been doing this for several years, or that you write for a newspaper. Trust me you will have a hard time finding something without that. One last thing, make sure you have a paypal account set up, its free and easy to do and it is the most accepted payment method for these types of jobs.

The site I have found is the most useful is Digital Point, its free to register and they always have tons of new jobs. Its a little tricky to find the right section of the forum so you have to make sure you scroll down and go to the "BUY, SELL or TRADE" section and then continue to the "CONTENT" thread. Good luck.

Paid online surveys have taken a beating in the last couple of years mainly because some people try to advertise you can make thousands of dollars by just filling out surveys. Of course these are scams and they give a bad name to the few online survey sites that actually work. See the problem with most of the highly advertised ones is that they only have a very small number of surveys that actually pay in cash, the majority pay in the form of submitting you to a gift raffle. Also, most survey sites do not update their sites frequently, this is because you pay a one time fee and once they have your money they have your money. There is no incentive for the site to provide you with a good service. The trick is to find a site where you pay a small monthly fee. This allows you the freedom to try out for say a month and then decide if you like their service. This means that the online survey company has to fight for you as a customer. This translates to:

Just make sure to be realistic, you will not fill out 100 surveys a day. Another hint, try to do as many focus groups as possible, I once participated in a hour long focus group and received a $100. However, these are extremely rare and you will probably find more within the $20 range.

The beauty about this is that it so hassle free and doesn't require any skill or knowledge whatsoever. It is basically free money.

Google Adsense is nothing short of a revolution. Seamlessly bringing together advertisers and webmasters. If you are reading this I am guessing that you have already heard of Adsense and if you already have a site then I am guessing you already have some ads implemented. But if there is one thing to learn from making money online is that you do not know anything, as things are constantly changing. The beauty of adsense is that it is a resource that has huge earning potential. I have met people who are earning 3 figures DAILY from using adsense correctly. This will be a fairly comprehensive post as Adsense should be a big part of the monetization of a website.

See when google crawls a page to determine a page rank it looks not just at traffic, but also at how many 'good' sites link to your websites. Once you have higher levels of traffic, it is time to focus on the web ads and content. Triond is a website similar to associatedcontent.com where you submit your articles and they publish it for you on the web. With triond you get paid 50% of the ad revenue your article generates. This is both good and bad, as this method of payment means you will have to look at measly figures the first couple of articles; however, as you write more and more articles and your articles are viewed more you will see more and more cash coming in. In addition, an article you submit once will keep on generating revenue for months to come. I have looked around on the web and the most I have seen proclaimed is around $200 per article over the course of two months, which is not bad considering an article may take an hour or so. However it is important to keep in mind that this is not something you can quit your day job for, it is just something you can supplement your income with. I would go as far as saying not to write articles specifically for triond. Instead, whenever you have an article you wrote for something (ex. school work), submit it on to Triond.
